Family Spotlight Series: Meet the Hughes Family

Built on Hard Work, Respect, and a Lot of Heart at J&J Acoustics.
Family isn’t just something we talk about,
it’s part of how we work, grow, and succeed together.
We will shine a light on families who help make J&J what it is.
This month, we’re excited to introduce the Hughes family Tony, Anthony, and Bailey.
With over 60 years of combined experience in the construction world,
these three show what happens when dedication, trust,
and family all come together on the jobsite.

Tony Hughes – The Patriarch
Tony’s been in the construction game for over 45 years, 8 years with us at J&J.
He’s seen a lot over the years,
but nothing makes him prouder than working side by side with his sons.
“Watching my sons grow into top-earning professionals in the industry,
doing business with integrity.”
He says it all started early:
“Anthony was always mechanically inclined—even as a kid,
he was tearing things apart to see how they worked.
Bailey has always been extremely intelligent, I thought he’d end up in corporate.
J&J is fortunate to have them both.”
When it comes to working with his boys, he doesn’t sugarcoat it:
“I have high expectations as a father, but they’ve never let me down.
Working together has helped me see my sons not just as ‘my boys,’ but as capable men.”
And when asked what they all bring to work as a family, his answer is simple:
“Dedication to J&J, always.”
His advice to other families working together?
“Separate business from personal.”

Anthony Hughes – The Legacy Builder

With 14 years in the industry (8 at J&J), Anthony followed in his dad’s footsteps
and he’s glad he did.
“Dad was the leading factor. Even as a little kid, I just wanted to be like him.”
Working with his family has built a strong bond:
“We don’t hold back! There’s complete trust and reliability between us.”
Anthony’s favorite work memory?
“Working all together on the new Modesto courthouse—it was something special.”
And here’s something fun most coworkers don’t know:
“We have a specific whistle we use, we can find each other in any crowded room!”
When asked what he’d say to other families thinking about working together:
“It’s not always easy, because you’re expected to perform better than the rest,
but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Bailey Hughes – The Smart Strategist

Bailey’s been with J&J for 6 years, and while he might’ve taken a different path,
he found his place right alongside his dad and brother.
“It was a happy coincidence that we all ended up in the same industry and life brought us all to J&J Acoustics.”
He admits separating work from home can be tricky:
“We try not to talk about work at home, but sometimes it slips in.
We spend so much time onsite, it’s bound to come up.”
And when it comes to what drives the Hughes crew every day, he sums it up perfectly:
“We hold ourselves to high standards. We all strive to bring our best when faced with challenges
and that keeps us performing at our highest level.”
